Sweater time
For my sweet little guy, who doesn't (for the most part) bark, chew, pee all over or steal our food. I love him.
CHOPPED TOMATOES graciously posted a sweet little dog sweater pattern. She herself has a long-haired chihuahua. Dexter will do a little photo shoot for us all once it's finished!
No, I'm not going to complain about how much I dislike pickles trying to get my sandwich bread soggy.

Before
It's an old accordion file organizer that was just sitting around. I printed the front and back on tabloid size paper, and each of the tabs (4'' x 1.5'') on cardstock so that they could be scored then folded over and stuck with double-sized tape.
I might be one of a handful of people who enjoy organizing recipes for fun...
Since I'm hosting book club for the first time, I thought I'd make up a little surprise for everyone. Bookmarks!
I chose the book I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith, a successful female playwright who later became known for the children's classic 101 Dalmations. It was written in 1948 and was out of print for many years in the States until reissued in 1998. I rarely laugh out loud when I read, but the sharp humor of this novel was just my style. It's also tinged with the tragedies of poverty and loneliness. I truly loved it - I'm eager to hear how all the other ladies felt about it.
Equal parts clever, nerdy and impossibly meticulous - how could anyone not appreciate this little piece of pop culture crafting?
It's a cross stitch of Ira Glass, host of the long-running program This American Life on Chicago Public Radio, by Bee Listy at www.beelisty.com. I remember doing a cross stitch portrait of my first puppy, but it wasn't nearly as detailed or original as this...amazing!
I also noticed that several of my favorite bands, such as Decemberists and Belle & Sebastian, are selling little indie cross-stitch kits. Just as bunko and knitting have come full-circle from old lady activities to hipster pastimes, I suspect the art of cross stitch might be having a comeback as well.
Martha showed us an easy way to bind a book on the show this week. I thought this was very cool:

I figured that all you fellow Flight lovers would appreciate these shirts John and I made with iron transfers and my own designs. The transfers have already started to crack a bit after a few wears, but it was so much fun anyway. See if you can guess which is John's and which is mine.
Here's the file. Just print it out with an inkjet on iron transfer paper, cut around the design and iron on!
